Full-Time Leading Farm Hand – Drive Operations at Our Pasture-Raised Egg Farm

Bega Valley Eggs is seeking a reliable and hardworking Leading Farm Hand to lead our small, dedicated team on our family-run farm in Kameruka. We produce premium pasture-raised eggs for customers who value top-quality produce, animal welfare, and sustainability.

As a paddock-to-plate operation in an exciting phase of growth, we’re looking for someone with practical expertise and a solid commitment to excellent farming practices. This is a hands-on role suited to someone ready to take on the daily tasks that keep our farm running smoothly and contribute to its ongoing success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Direct and motivate a team of 3–4 staff across paddock and grading room operations.

  • Farm Operations:

    • Oversee paddock rotations, including relocating infrastructure to fresh pasture.

    • Collect eggs, monitor flock health, and maintain high welfare standards.

    • Operate tractors and other machinery for paddock work and maintenance tasks.

    • Care for hens and farm dogs, ensuring their needs are met daily.

  • Maintenance:

    • Manage basic infrastructure, machinery, and irrigation system upkeep.

    • Perform repairs as needed.

    • Occasional fencing

  • Coordination and Record-Keeping:

    • Communicate effectively with contractors and suppliers.

    • Keep accurate records of farm operations, including compliance and productivity data.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Be trained in and oversee Grading Room operations:

    • Operate egg washing and grading equipment.

    • Ensure compliance with Food Authority standards.

    • Manage inventory and packaging.

About You:

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has excellent organisational and leadership skills.

  • Is reliable, hardworking, and able to work independently while managing a team.

  • Is physically fit (able to lift 20 - 25kg) and comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • Can adapt quickly to changing circumstances, including weather and livestock needs.

  • Is detail-oriented, with a commitment to completing tasks to a high standard.

  • Understands the importance of sustainable farming practices and animal welfare.

  • Is available during peak holiday periods, including Christmas and Easter.

Experience:

  • Agricultural experience is highly desirable.

  • Competency in operating tractors, irrigation systems, and basic machinery maintenance is preferred.

  • Welding skills and mechanical knowledge are a plus.
